DAS Audio gives the Gran Teatro in Cáceres a revamp

The iconic cultural venue in Cáceres implements a constant curvature line array sound system based on the DAS Vantec Series.

The Gran Teatro has been one of the major cultural hubs in the city of Cáceres ever since it opened its doors in 1926. With a program that offers an extensive range of plays as well as a variety of musical and cultural performances, the theater is a can’t-miss venue for the country’s performing arts companies and musical artists.

In a move to ensure that the venue continues to work with top-of-the-line equipment, the theater owners brought in Extremadura-based sound company Servicios Audiovisuales de Extremadura (SAVEX) to install an entirely new sound system. After analyzing the venue and its needs, the experts recommended the use of DAS Vantec 20A constant curvature line array systems to provide uniform sound coverage in shallow enclosures that has audiences seated at different heights.

The main set-up features 10 units drawn from the Vantec 20A catalog of system, divided into two arrays of 5 units on each side of the stage. Two Vantec 218A subwoofer systems were deployed to give the low frequencies a boost and were installed centrally in front of the stage. An additional two Vantec 20A systems were used as front fill for the front rows of the audience.

The system also includes a DAS DSP-4080 digital signal processor that controls and adjusts the signals from all the equipment in the system. Every system installed in the Gran Teatro in Cáceres are self-powered, streamlining both system installation and operation.

This updated system means that the theater’s roughly 600 spectators can enjoy flawless sound in any seat of the house during recent performances by artists including La Mala Rodríguez and Mocedades. The venue has also hosted the Cáceres Spanish Film Festival awards ceremony and the Book Day Reading Marathon, as well as several performances that were part of the Cáceres Classical Theatre Festival.
