Oasis of the Seas – Royal Caribbean

Oasis of the Seas welcomes DAS Audio aboard.

The Royal Caribbean’s cruise ship upgrades its sound reinforcement system fitting the Quantum and WR systems in areas exposed to extreme environmental conditions.

After more than ten years of sailing, the Oasis of the Seas, launched in 2009, needed to modernize its facilities. Control AV carried out the renovation of the audiovisual equipment both on the open deck (pool, barbecue area, back of the boat, Aqua Theatre, Adventure Ocean) and indoor (Spotlight Karaoke, Music Hall, Bionic Bar, Playmakers Sports Bar, among others) using a combination of DAS Audio systems to provide sound quality as well as endurance and reliability in extreme environments. To this end, the systems WR-6412-DXW, from the WR series, were installed on the deck and the Q-3-T, Q-3-TW, Q-43-TW, from the Quantum series, were fitted in more sheltered locations across the vessel.

Cruise ship installations are highly demanding. On the one hand, deadlines for building and mounting the sound system are very strict. Additionally, the installations call for designing and building special and custom-made structures to integrate the systems into very specific locations. According to Gonzalo Arroyo, Project Engineer at DAS Audio who provided tech support during the installation, “The situations that occur on each ship are special. Each ship is different, with its own requirements, so we try to design and build accessories that make life a little bit easier to our clients”.

The extend of specialization is such that the assistance of experts in this type of installations is a must. In this occasion, the Florida-based company Control AV, a provider of state-of-the-art technology for the shipping and hospitality industries, oversaw the operation. “The most problematic thing is time, especially when there are changes. A job that on land is done in 3/4 months, here we do it in 14 days,” comments Control AV project manager Carlos Obando, who has worked closely with DAS Audio. “DAS Audio gives us the best support and the guarantee that you can always count on them to assist you. That´s a great help”.
