The night in Miami with DAS Audio loudspeakers. Vantec and Artec series: a terrific setup
Light F/X Pros, a Miami-based AV design / build firm with more than 20 years of experience in live audio, concerts, recording, engineering, productions, festivals, corporate events, and fixed installations, was contracted to design and deploy the loudspeaker systems at the Miami Improv Comedy Theater and the Copper Blues Rock Pub and Kitchen. Jhander Orihuela, Audio Engineer for Light F/X Pros, discussed the two projects, the challenges they presented, and the reasons for selecting DAS Audio loudspeakers.
“To meet the requirements of our client,” Orihuela explained, “we needed to deploy audio systems that offered the versatility to address a variety of events types and activities since these venues operate as restaurants, concert halls, and party rooms. As a result, these systems required the SPL to provide solid coverage throughout the spaces, depending on the activities taking place at any given time, in addition to having both a high level of speech intelligibility and music reproduction capabilities. After all, if the crowd can’t understand what the comedian says, he’s not likely to get many laughs”.
At the Miami Improv Comedy Theater, the Light F/X Pros team installed a primary sound setup consisting of six DAS Vantec 20A active curved source line array elements—flown three enclosures each for the left and right sides. For low frequency support, these are accompanied by two DAS Vantec 18A powered bass reflex subwoofers—placed one enclosure per side. Artec 526A and Artec 508A systems are distributed throughout seven zones depending upon the capacity, location and target (seated patrons, hallways, the main entrance, etc.)
At the Copper Blues Rock Pub and Kitchen, the primary sound setup consists of six DAS Vantec 20A active curved source line array elements—flown three enclosures each for the left and right sides. Just like the setup at the Miami Improv Comedy Theater, these are accompanied by four DAS Vantec 118A powered bass reflex subwoofers—placed two enclosures per side. Artec 526A and Artec 508A systems are distributed throughout eight zones.
Orihuela explains “The Vantec line’s dispersion characteristics and sound quality proved to be the perfect system for live bands and DJs while the Artec series’ intelligibility and uniformity provided the ideal support for the delays. Together, they make a terrific setup in these two venues.” He comments that “the client couldn’t be happier. Everyone who has encountered these sound systems has been impressed, that includes the performers and the customers. We have received numerous compliments about the great sound quality at these two properties. Both the products and the sales and support people at DAS Audio have been nothing short of terrific, resulting in two more successful projects for our company!”
